Trauma

At Lighthouse, we understand that experiencing trauma can have a profound impact on all aspects of your life. Therefore, we offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can share your experiences, emotions, and concerns with a counselor guided by empathy, understanding, and respect for your unique journey.  In addition, we provide the guidance, tools, and resources to help you find healing, resilience, and hope along the way.  We commit to creating a compassionate space where healing and growth can occur.

Trauma can result in a wide range of emotional challenges, such as anxiety, depression, flashbacks, and emotional dysregulation. So, our trauma recovery services provide evidence-based techniques and coping strategies. Our goal in treatment is to support emotional regulation, cultivate resilience, and promote overall well-being.

Traumatic experiences can leave lasting imprints on your mind and body. As a result, they profoundly impact your sense of safety and trust in yourself, others, and the world around you.  Our trauma recovery services help you process and integrate these experiences in a safe and supportive environment. This process helps you establish healthy boundaries, develop self-compassion, and restore a sense of control over your own life.

How do we work in trauma recovery?

A trauma-informed approach grounds all of our therapy around trauma. We recognize the impact of trauma on individuals and aim to create a therapeutic environment that promotes safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. So, we tailor our trauma-informed care with a blend of modalities to promote relaxation, self-regulation, and the release of trauma stored in the body. Some of these are Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Techniques, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

Mindfulness practices promote self-awareness, self-compassion, and present-moment focus. Our counselors incorporate mindfulness techniques into counseling sessions to help you cultivate resilience, manage stress, and develop a deeper understanding of your emotions. Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for self-reflection, healing, and embracing the present moment.

More Information on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a widely recognized therapeutic approach used for the treatment of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other emotional difficulties. EMDR incorporates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, hand taps, or auditory tones) to help individuals reprocess traumatic experiences in a way that allows them to heal and integrate the memories into their life narratives. This process may involve desensitizing the emotional intensity of the memories, identifying and replacing negative beliefs and self-perceptions, and fostering the development of more adaptive and positive beliefs.

**ONLY a trained and licensed mental health professional who has received specialized training in EMDR therapy should provide EMDR therapy. You can read more about EMDR here, or watch a video here.**
